This Impossible Garden

Garden Update via email to a friend

Yo! Sorry for not writing for awhile. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

This was not one of my favorite summers. Hot and very humid. As always, I don’t mind the heat but I just can’t

handle the humidity. I broke my foot early on (and injured my other ankle. Sheesh) and between that and the weather I lost my ambition (you know it’s hard to find in the first place).

Garden was mostly a failure again, BUT I got some tomatoes believe it or not! I tried two new (to me) varieties and they didn’t get that rotten disease until later…really a lot less than in the past [almost none at all]. But because of the drought [and heat] they had a different problem where the white parts inside got real hard and inedible. Once you cut that out there wasn’t much left and the tomato varieties were pretty small so I’ll try a different variety next year. We did get some decent ones though which is an improvement from previous years. At least I know I’m on the right track.

F—ing rabbits ate the bean and broccoli plants. The hot peppers did ok (but not the sweet) and the squashes and potatoes were a flop. Got a couple [small] cukes, plenty of green onions [long white bunching and egyptian walking onions].

A lot of the failures was from the heat but a lot of it was also because the weeds got away from me. They grow so well, why can’t we eat them? [actually a lot of the weed invasion is Purslane, which is edible, but it’s mostly grass]

We did have asparagus this spring, enough for a couple meals. The strawberry plants mostly died [I should have said ‘after a fairly decent harvest’] but I was planning to start a new section of them anyway.

So it got to be time to plant fall crops of stuff but remembered I still hadn’t had rabbit stew so I figured they would just eat what I plant. I am going to put chicken wire all around the bottom of the fence folded out so it extends about a foot from the fence (to prevent digging) and after that fails I’ll try electric fence and then I’m out of ideas. Oh yeah I might get a dog or two next year so that might help too.

I’ve been blogging about my garden but I’m as good at keep up with that as I am at keeping up with emails. Hahaha. Anyway, it’s at http://darkskywv.net/waynes_impossible/. I’ve been doing a lot of work to it lately and moved it to a new site.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

You don’t want me to get to my health – maybe next email. Haha. I’m alive anyway.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Wayno!
